Acupuncture
Acupuncture is part of a complete system of medicine that has been practiced in China for thousands of years. The goal of treatment is to bring the body closer to an optimal state of functioning by engaging its natural healing response to reverse the progression of disease or to prevent disease from occurring.
The acupuncturists in our clinic are adept at managing a wide variety of conditions, with particular focus on pain management, chemotherapy-related side effects (including nausea), fertility and women's issues, headaches and migraines, and fibromyalgia.
Research from leading institutions such as the National Institutes of Health clearly shows that acupuncture is efficacious for many types of pain. Studies also confirm its use for post-operative, pregnancy-related, and chemotherapy-related nausea and vomiting. The anti-inflammatory effect of treatments make it suitable for addressing symptoms associated with seasonal allergies and some auto-immune disorders. Many other conditions can also benefit from acupuncture. The World Health Organization has listed more than 40 conditions for which acupuncture may be indicated.
Acupuncture is safe, effective, and deeply relaxing for most people. Treatments involve the insertion of one or more thin, sterile needles on specific points of the body to improve and maintain health.

Family Medicine
Our family physician is a medical doctor (MD) with specialty training in women's health, pediatrics, adult medicine, geriatrics, and behavioral health. Family physicians are primary care providers who focus on preventative health, nutrition, and patient education with a holistic approach to the care of the body and the mind. They also address acute and chronic illnesses, provide vaccinations, and do minor surgical procedures.
Our approach to family medicine at the Hawthorne Wellness Center is a unique model of care. We believe that up-to-date medical knowledge, an electronic health record for reliable access to your health history, and a personal connection with your physician create the optimal conditions for healing. We feel that the solution to the fragmented healthcare system is to put the patient directly in touch with the physician. Much in the manner of the family doctor of days gone by, we seek to improve direct access to your doctor by offering same-day appointments and longer office visits (typically 30 minutes for established patients, and 60 minutes for new patients).

Massage
Therapeutic massage addresses superficial and deep muscle layers with a variety of techniques that involve kneading and stretching. The many benefits of massage include reduction of physical pain, increased range of motion, flexibility, a bolstered immune system, stimulation of blood and lymph circulation, accelerated recovery from injury, and reduced stress and anxiety. By physically assessing the troubled areas and discussing client needs, massage therapists can relieve tension through detailed massage work on specific areas.
Therapists at our clinic specialize in deep tissue massage, sports massage, and hot stone therapy, blending years of experience into focused, patient-specific care.

Naturopathy
The core principle guiding naturopathy is the healing power of nature: naturopathic medicine utilizes natural therapies to prevent and treat dis-ease. Naturopathic physicians believe that the body possesses innate healing mechanisms and that if supported sufficiently, these mechanisms can guide the patient back to health. Naturopathic physicians maximize this innate capacity to heal by stimulating physiological processes and using substances such as botanical and nutritional medicines to support a return to full functioning. As naturopathic medicine utilizes natural therapies to support healthy body processes, it is gentle and safe for the entire family.
In addition, our naturopath takes great care to treat the whole person—not just symptoms—creating an individualized treatment plan for each patient that takes into consideration personal and family history, lifestyle, and the most current diagnostic and functional tests. In this way, we are able to treat the true causes of disease and optimize the individual body's ability to heal.
